When The Road Gets Rough

078

“The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.”

 Psalms 121 :7-8(NIV)

It’s easy to trust God when life is going good. When everything runs smoothly and we don’t have to worry about anything, but what about when it doesn’t. God doesn’t promise us that once we become Christians our lives will be smooth sailing, quite the opposite actually. How do we endure suffering, troubles and hardships? Do we trust God or do we pack our bags and say I’m outta here? We will fail sometimes, let’s face it, we are not perfect beings and we live in a fallen world.  God doesn’t leave us empty handed, He gives us tools to use every day, so that even when we fail He is right there to scoop us up again. Trust Him and read His Word.

Seeing the Unseen

rose“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance

About what we do not see.”

Hebrews 11:1(NIV)

In life it’s easy to get discouraged by things and to lose hope. Just as the sun comes up faithfully each day, so too are God’s words to us. Endure and persevere in our relationship to Jesus. Nothing else matters, not adoption, infertility, weight loss. God’s wisdom is made visible in Jesus. When we trust that God is smarter and wiser than us and acknowledge His faithfulness, we begin to see the unseen. Faith isn’t faith sometimes unless it’s all your holding on it.

Never Enough Hours in A Day

hour-glass

Time always seems to be something I am running out of. 24 hours in one day doesn’t seem like enough to get everything I need to get done, completed. Einstein said that the older we get the faster time seems to go by. Either I am trying to do too much each day or I’m just not that great at managing my time. With kids, a husband, pets, students, parents of students, homework, errands and after school activities my kids need to get to, I wonder half the time what I’m doing. I think sometimes we just need to stop and take time to smell the roses.

Life’s Race

Finishing line

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a

great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything

that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame

, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners,

so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

 Hebrews 12:1-3

Who would have ever thought that the writer in Hebrews would refer to life as a race. When we train for any kind of race we focus on building up endurance. As Christians we focus on being a people who endure and persevere in the supremacy of Jesus. The Bible doesn’t tell us that once we are Christians that it’s clear sailing in fact it’s the opposite a lot of times. There will be agony in life, we should expect it because it is necessary for spiritual strength. Self-pity becomes the inability to process that suffering will go around us. Run the race with endurance and run for the joy you find in Jesus. Consider that he has already suffered and paid the price for all of us.  It is when we are weak that we are strong.

“Lord, thank you that I don’t have to run this race alone. Thank you that my sins have already been bought and paid for. Help me to see that when I am at my weakest I am actually at my strongest.” Amen

The Harvest

IMG_0189“Let us not become weary in doing good, for

At the proper time we will reap a harvest, if

We do not give up.”

Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Harvest means the season in which you pick or gather something. Generally, crops are gathered during the harvest season. When we sow seeds and grow them to be strong they become ripe for the harvest. So too, as Christians we need to grow in our faith not just by bringing others to Christ but also helping them grow as Christians. Sometimes all it takes is telling someone how you came to know Jesus. God does the planting and through the Holy Spirit we see our need for Jesus. He wants us to be part of His Harvest if we are willing.

“Lord, thank you for sending Jesus to us. Help us to sow the seeds you plant and bring Your Word to a hurting nation. A great harvest is coming and I wish to help.” Amen

God does the planting and the Holy Spirit shows us our need for Jesus.

Being Human

IMG_0116“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

I never tire reading those words in Matthew. How many of us are weary and burdened every day and just looking for rest? All we need to do is go to the Lord. For the past few months I’ve been trying to work on my health. I’ve set a goal and have been determined to reach them. Doing it on my own is exhausting though and it seemed like I was taking on Mt. Everest, when I realized I needed God’s help because I couldn’t do it on my own, the journey got easier. Each day is a new day with new challenges but each day, I pray that God will help me through it and so far He has.

God gives rest to the weary.
